The electromagnetic compatibility problem of converter system is an important issue affecting the development of the VSC-HDVC technology. The establishment of VSC-HVDC converter stations and the increase of transmission voltage l evel put forward higher requirement for the problem of converter system electromagnetic compatibility. Developing the calculate model of VSC-HVDC converter system's radiation has great signification for the accurate prediction of the space electromagnetic field and effective analysis of electromagnetic disturbance characteristics.Supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China under grant NO.51207054, wideband modeling of converter system and the study of characteristics of electromagnetic disturbance in VSC-HVDC station, the antenna model and the electromagnetic field calculation of the VSC-HVDC converter valve system are studied in this paper. The paper presents a novel method to analyze the radiated electromagnetic disturbance of VSC-HVDC converter system by combining circuit theory with electromagnetic theory. The theory of the field and the circuit are combined to analyze the electromagnetic disturbance characteristics of the VSC-HVDC converter valve system. Two key factors, namely, the disturbance source and the actual physical structure, are derived by theory. The antenna model of the VSC-HVDC converter system is built based on the experimental platform of North China Electric Power University New Energy Laboratory. The validity of the method is demonstrated. Finally, an antenna model of 49-level MMC converter valve system is built. The comparison between calculated and measured shows that the method is reliable in practical engineering applications. The radiation electromagnetic disturbance characteristics of two kinds of structures are respectively analyzed by using the antenna model of two level converter system and modular multilevel converter valve system. The calculation method and the modeling theory have guidance function to the study o f VSC-HVDC converter valve system radiated electromagnetic disturbance characteristics.
