As a kind of clean energy, nuclear energy has been widely used in power generation. Comparing with large and medium-sized nuclear power plant, the small plant has more extensive application in many areas such as generation, seawater desalination, urban heat supply, supplied power in icebreaker and marine vessel and so on. After the Fukushima nuclear accident, nuclear safety is raised to new height. The study of safe and economical auxiliary power system in the small nuclear power plant has a positive and practical significance to promote research and development work of the small nuclear plant in China.Through the analysis and comparison of auxiliary power system design in large and medium-sized nuclear power plants which are built or under construction in China, the paper summarizes the basic requirements of design auxiliary power system, and elaborates in detail load classification, voltage selection, the connection mode of service power and the principle of bus-bar subsection in all kinds of nuclear power plant. According to load characteristics of the small nuclear plant under study, load classification and voltage class are determined. Combined the function characteristic and operation modes in various conditions, and using the design experience of large and medium-sized nuclear power plants and the same size of conventional fossil power plant, auxiliary power system wiring is proposed. By load calculation and considering nuclear safety requirements, technical parameters of main electrical equipments are determined.
