Along with the development of shipping business, ships are becoming bigger, faster and more intelligent. Because there is prodigious inertia when a bigger ship is sailing, the high performance of maneuver is demanded. To ensure safety and raise economic it is necessary to adopt the new control theory, control strategy and technique.Along with the development of automatic control theory and technology, in the fifties of the 20th century classical control theory is applied to the study of ship control system, the PID autopilot products today is known as the first generation of automatic rudder; at the end of the 1970s, model reference adaptive control and minimum variance self-tuning control adaptive control technology and have been applied to the development of the autopilot, which resulted in the birth of the adaptive autopilot. However, due to the complexity of the ship motion and its environmental impact is random and difficult to predict, therefore, the control algorithm can not completely solve the control problem of the ship's course.Influence of the natural conditions such as wind and wave in the ship course were analyzed in this paper on the establishment of ship model with four degrees of freedom is based; through direct drive rotary vane steering gear in the ship course correction, and finally reach the ship according to the predetermined target trajectory navigation; at the same time, the ship track/steering neural network controller design, so as to keep the ship sailing along a desired trajectory.
