In general, the ship heading is controlled by steering gear system, so the safety andefficiency of ship sailing are determined by the performance of the steering gear. Especiallyfor warship steering system, better ability of controlling the posture is needed to improve thehandling capacity and combat ability of the warship. The research object of this paper is thedirect driving rotary vane type steering gear system, for the poor dynamic characteristics,complex structure, low efficiency, and other shortcomings of the traditional steering, It is anew type of steering gear form used direct driving type for its driving way, turn leaf typemotor as its executive mechanism. The paper carries on the related modeling and simulationanalysis.The comparison of the advantages and disadvantages between the traditional steeringand the direct driving volume control steering gear system is finished on the basis ofthoroughly understanding of direct-drive volume control and steering development, andconsulting a large number of the steering gear, direct driving type volume control,electro-hydraulic servo system and electric motors.and the characters of the direct drivevolume control technology and rotary vane steering gear are summarized in detail. Thecomposition structure and working principle of the direct driving volume control steering gearsystem are analyzed, and the linear mathematical models of frequency control links, thepower steering gear pump links, the transmission links and feedback are established to obtainthe mathematical model of the whole steering gear system. Due to the complex environmentof steering gear system, the rudder leaf water dynamic model under the open water, outsideenvironment interference and the relations between the steering gear’s performance andstructure size are also analyzed in this paper.According to the hydraulic steering gear steering gear technical requirements andclassification society to hydraulic steering gear technology index, consulting a large numberof relevant shipping material, and calculated the steering gear system simulation parameters.Different Matlab/Simulink models are established for with or without water powerinterference after the determination of every system parameters. And then the simulation andanalysis of the stability of the steering gear system are done without water power interference,The simulation of the system to get Byrd figure, besides the simulation and analysis of the system dynamic characters are also finished under different circumstances, different steeringmodes. The influences of the change of the steering system structure parameters to system’sproperties are analyzed with the addition of water power.Finally, according to the simulation results of the steering gear summarized the steeringgear handling characteristics, designed a Fuzzy-PID controller in order to improve thesteering gear system’s control ability under all sea’s conditions. And In different seaconditions and different steering modes, the steering gear system with the Fuzzy-PIDcontroller is verified. The results show that under the Fuzzy-PID control algorithm, thedynamic characters of the direct driving volume control steering gear system are significantlyimproved, andenhanced the system of anti-disturbance capacity, increased the system’sbandwidth, the direct driving type volume control steering gear system can effectively workin bad rough seas.
