With the continuous growth of electricity consumption, the peak load is still increasing, which endangers the safe and economic operation of the power grid. The flexible load gradually becomes the focus of academic research, and its dispatching is an effective measure to ease the contradiction between supply and demand sides. Consequently it is very important to schedule flexible load in the power system. Central air conditioning is a typical kind of flexible load, which accounts for nearly half of the load in the peak stage of power grid. Load adjustment of central air conditioning can maintain the balance and improve the operating efficiency of the power system.First of all, this paper analyzes the research status of flexible load and selects the central air conditioner as typical flexible load. Then establishing the model of central air conditioning system, including thermodynamic model as well as energy consumption model. In the system model, two kinds of central air conditioning systems are analyzed, which are central air conditioning system with fresh air link and Central air conditioning system without fresh air link.Secondly this paper studies the control strategy and load regulation potential of central air conditioning. Control strategy includes control mode, objective function, decision variables and constraint conditions. Meanwhile the potential calculation is based on two different modeling methods. What's more a baseline algorithm based on parameter identification is introduced using the harmony search algorithm to find the optimal solution. After that the paper researches the load aggregation of central air conditioning system, which put forwards three specific load aggregation strategy based on load regulation characteristics, room comfort index and economy of central air-conditioning. It provides reference for load aggregation quotient.At Last the paper analyses the situation of the central air conditioning system in power system operation, and studies on the participation in two typical distributed power scene, consisting of load tracking and stabilizing the output power. The modeling, control strategy, and the effect of participating in the operation of the power system are verified by examples. Research on modeling and control strategy of the central air conditioning provides a reference for the control of flexible load in power system.
