It was found that the sectional patterns of restricted inland channel are significantly affected by the enhanced modern ship hydrodynamics and the ship-generated waves are the primary dynamic factor according to the Channel Survey conducted in Jiangsu Province. Therefore, the ship-generated waves in restricted inland channel should be studied before studying on the sectional patterns response mechanism of restricted inland channel under the action of modern ship hydrodynamics.Test study and numerical simulation method are used to study the ship-generated waves in restricted inland channel in this paper. The field observations were conducted at a straight section (about 500m) of Xicheng canal relying on the three-level waterway regulation engineering in Xicheng canal. The observed time profile for water surface elevation was collected when the 300-ton and 400-ton ships sailed through the observation area with different ship speeds and distance to the river bank,27 groups in total. The calculation formula (Blaauw formula) of maximum ship-generated waves height is corrected and the relation between distance to river bank, depth Fouude number and maximum ship-generated waves height are analyzed based on observed data. The ship-generated waves model is established based on depth averaged 2D Navier-Stokes equations, and moving pressure field method is used. The ship is replaced by a pressure field in this model. The comparison of the fluctuations of the free surface elevation between computed results and observed data at different wave gauges shows good agreement. It shows that the ship-generated waves in restricted inland channel could be simulated by Delft3D-FLOW model.Then the influence factors of maximum ship-generated waves height are analyzed based on the validated model, including ship speed, distance to the river bank and ship draft. The quantitative relation among depth Froude number, blocking coefficient and maximum ship-generated waves height is draw, as Hmax/h= Fh4.9 ยท S0.69.By analysis of the characteristics of ship-generated waves in Xicheng canal, the study results can provide the basis for the three-level waterway regulation engineering in Xicheng canal and the study on the sectional patterns response mechanism of restricted inland channel under the action of modern ship hydrodynamics.This study method can aslo be used to study ship-generated waves in other restricted inland channel.
