Railway bearing ring cylindrical grinder is mainly used for grinding bearing ring raceway and the major diameter, its dynamic performance directly determines the machining accuracy and surface quality of the bearings. Based on the railway bearing ring cylindrical grinder as the research object, considering the modeling problem of the joint stiffness, the machine is analyzed and optimized in this paper, the main research work is as follows:(1)The dynamic model of railway bearing ring cylindrical grinder is established by Solidworks and ANSYS. Based on tribology theory, vibration theory, Hertz contact theory and Takashi Yoshimura integration method, the contact stiffness of damping cushion, the feed system joint and bolt joints is calculated, and is added to the whole machine model by spring element in ANSYS.(2) The modal and harmonic response is analyzed, the influence of the fixed form and the joint stiffness to the dynamic characteristic of the grinder is discussed. The results show that, when the grinder is placed on the ground through the damping cushion, the modal shape is close to free mode; the influence of the joint to the grinder’s dynamic characteristic can’t be ignored.(3) According to modal and harmonic response results, the grinder bed, workpiece system and grinding system structure is designed with the goal of improving lower rank natural frequencies and reducing the amplitude between grinding wheel and workpiece, and the final dynamic design method is determined. Considering the influence of the joint, the dynamic characteristic is. analyzed of the improved grinder. The results show that, the first four order natural frequency of the elastic connection of the grinder increased by 11.32%,13.15%,8.67% and 3.45%, and the maximum amplitude between grinding wheel and workpiece declined by 4.4% after the structure dynamic design. The dynamic characteristic of the grinder is improved.
