Cavity takes up a large percentage in aircraft landing gear structure, besides, finishing cavity machining needs to remove most of the blank. The technologist usually employ contour-parallel tool path planning mode to machine the cavity. Line transition is exploited in traditional cut pattern, while the cutter cuts in the blank,the load increases suddenly, which leads to cutter wear, and lower the quality of the cavity. Because sharp exist in the corner, reduce the feed is often employed in practice.Thus, the efficiency is lowered. High speed machining is characterized in high spindle speed and high feed. In cut state,because of high cut speed,each cutter tooth bear little cutting output. Thus,it has the advantage of low cut load, high machining efficiency.Aiming at the above problem of aircraft landing gear, this text exploited the advantage of high speed machining, the spiral tool path was introduced in to machine the square cavity.Inhomogeneous offset method was exploited to get the cavity boundary offset curve, and method of linear interpolation is adopted to gain the single spiral.Whereas, the double spiral was consisted of two staggered single spiral. One proximate square cavity was used as the experiment object to verify the correctness of the spiral tool path.Aiming at the cavity of narrow feature, medial axis transform principle was exploited to create the trochoid tool path in this text. The principle of trochoid tool path was that the medial axis transform circle moved until all the cavity bottom face was covered in defined parameters. An octagram cavity was employed as the experiment object to verify the correctness of trochoid tool path.On the basis of the investigation in the corporation, the technologist considered that NX possesses friendly interface. Thus, NX advanced development to create the interface and MATLAB to program the algorithm of spiral and trochoid were adopted in this text. An software for landing gear barrel machining was developed to generate trochoid and spiral tool path.To verify the practicality of cavity machining module,mill turn machine was used as the experiment platform, and the aircraft landing gear as the experiment object to carry on the trochoid and spiral verification experiment, besides, trochoid, spiral and contour parallel experiment was carried out,through the experiment,the superiority of trochoid and spiral tool path to contour parallel was proved.
