Urban public traffic is a sign of city civilization. It's related to the city's economic, political, cultural, education and etc. At present, the proportion of public transport is lower in many cities of China, and the problems of residents trip inconvenience, road congestion, environmental pollution, etc. is more serious, so that the development of public transport can't meet the needs of people trip and society development. In order to solve the problem of urban traffic problem, the state proposed the policy of ‘giving priority to the development of public transportation' in 2012. So it is very meaningful to analyze urban public transport travel data and find out the reasonable traffic planning measures.City bus is an important component of urban public transit system. Accurate public passenger flow is the precondition and basis of bus scheduling management and bus line planning. Compared to obtaining public customer traffic dates by the mean of manual survey, a mount of real-time IC card data and GPS data not only have the characteristics of wide coverage and good continuity, but also are saving-resources and high efficiency. We can get a lot of reliable bus passenger flow information quickly by analyzing the data originating from bus IC card and GPS. Besides, the relationship of traffic data can be presented at different forms by data visualization technology, which can help the manager intuitively learn the public customer traffic.This paper takes IC card and GPS data of Chongqing urban bus as the main research object. In order to get the judging method and information of passengers boarding and slighting station, a large amounts of raw noise data are preprocessed and the relationship between the data are analyzed. Two sides of bus passenger flow and residents trip are further analyzed to optimize bus operation decision and transit planning. Finally, the results of analysis results with different visual forms are shown, which can provide support for transportation planning. The main content of the paper is as follow:(1)A suit of judgment method of boarding and alighting station is proposed. Because IC card data doesn't record the information of boarding and alighting station, and merely include boarding time. Connecting IC card and bus GPS data, station spacing and the distance from the traffic to central station are used to get the accurate arrival time. So passenger boarding station can be calculated after combining with the grouping results of data clustering. Based on the method of calculation of alighting station in bus trip-chains, the boarding and alighting station can be calculated.(2)Analysis public transit passenger flow characteristics. According to the data of bus IC card and boarding and alighting station in Chongqing, peak interval partition model is established on the basis of Fisher optimal segmentation. Line bus passenger flow is divided into different peak value interval, so line departure intervals can be adjusted easily. After analyzing the time and space characteristics of bus passenger flow, the rule of public transport passenger flow and traffic spatial distribution are displayed with the visualization method. The relation between the passenger flow distribution and urban roads and center area is gained to support bus operational decision.(3)An improved algorithm of recognition residence and workplace is proposed. In order to identify the area of residence and employment, time ranges are added into IC card data of single card system. After doing a statistics of a week's worth of information, the final residence and employment are confirmed and the recognition efficiency is improved. Further, commuters' commuter trips are identified on the basis of the identification of residence and workplace, and the final commuter trip route is acquired.(4)Tableau and Baidu Maps are regarded as basic map to visualize geospatial data. According to data characteristics, some visual elements are added to solve some common problems suffered in GIS Map, such as slow loading speed and weak factuality. So the exhibition effects of the map are enhanced and more actual.
