Water supply pumping station is an essential part and the main energy-inefficient unit of urban water supply system, therefore, reasonable operation of water supply pumping station has great influence on whole water supply system. As the development and application of variable frequency speed regulation equipment, water supply pumping stations bloomed jointly run with constant speed pumps and variable frequency speed pumps, which have a certain energy-saving effect. However, parts of water supply pumping stations, especially those in small and medium towns, have problems of poor operation and management and mismatch between operation scheduling and real-time requirements, which results in energy waste.The artificial bee colony(ABC) algorithm, a new intelligent group optimization algorithm, has received great intention since it is proposed in 2005. But basic ABC algorithm has advantages of relatively simple search strategy, greedy searching mechanism, easily trapping in local optimum, low search precision, low speed of convergence in later period and bad optimize performance for complex functions. Hence, in view of these disadvantages, improvement strategies are proposed in this article as follow:(1) Introduce adaptive and global optimal search strategy in random search strategy of honey-gathering bees and observing bees;(2) Introduce crossover operator in genetic algorithm when observing bees are searching in order to avoid rapid decrease of algorithm diversity;(3) Introduce Gauss mutation search strategy in search mechanism in order to enhance search abilities of honey-gathering bees and observing bees for local area;(4) Introduce chaotic search for stagnant solutions when scouting bees search and utilize its randomicity and ergodicity to improve the ability of algorithm for getting rid of interference of local extremum points in order to improve diversity of population and ergodicity of search.Combing with above improvement strategies, adaptive and global optimum guided artificial bee colony algorithm based on crossover and mutation(CSGQ-ABC) is proposed. The proposed algorithm preferably balances the ability of ABC for exploring and developing and greatly improved optimizing performance of ABC. Optimization results of 5 standard test functions indicate that compared with basic ABC, GA and PSO, CSGQ-ABC has great advantages in both convergence speed and optimization precision and is able to obtain global optimal solution with higher precision for optimization of complex high-dimensional functions.Optimal scheduling of pumping station a complex nonlinear programming problem composed of state functions, continuous variables and nonlinear functions. This paper studies applicability of CSGQ-ABC algorithm in optimal scheduling of pumping station and verifies optimizing performance of CSGQ-ABC algorithm by engineering example. CSGQ-ABC algorithm can quickly and accurately obtain optimal operation strategy under different operational conditions when time-of-use electricityprice and daily water consumption change are taken into consideration, which provides a new idea for optimal scheduling of water supply pumping station.
