Traffic signs are an important part of road system, its design quality will directly affect the driver’s normal pathfinding and unobstructed road system.With the development of economy and society, people’s experience requirements for traffic signs are becoming higher and higher.At the same time,the way people cognize information is more intuitive, so the design method of traffic signs also need adapt to the new development.Product design disciplines are the darling of The Times, with the development of information technology, humanized design idea and the method has a rapid development. Especially with the deepening of the usability design method and experiential research, it has formed a relatively perfect theory and method system. This article first apply usability research methods for the field of product design, combining the characteristics of the traffic signs with it, to explore suitable traffic signs usability research theory and method system.Through investigation and analysis, psychological analysis and the research object modeling analysis, extract the driver’s need of traffic signs and determine the index system. Use the method of QFD, TRIZ and mouth Taughi to solve problems in the design process and put forward optimization scheme, finally,use the fuzzy hierarchy evaluation method to evaluate scheme.Design method based on the usability of the traffic signs, build the process of "demand research, design method, scheme evaluation", through qualitative and quantitative analysis, it is concluded that the driver’s demand for the use of traffic signs, significant, easy to read, easy to follow and decision-making, put forward the scheme that when the layout background is green, character color is white and when the word is 40 cm high. And the parameter collocation is the best combination for visibility. And put forward the solution of conflict problems. At the same time, it verifies the usability research method combining with advanced product design method is feasible in the design of traffic signs.
