Since ancient times, business is one of the core functions of the city. Commercial Pedestrian Street in the traditional sense just meets the material needs for people shopping, with the coming of the consumption times, people won’t stay in the material requirements phase for commercial pedestrian street anymore and will pay more attention to their mental and emotional experience needs. Thus, people’s aspirations for the external space of commercial pedestrian street tend to transform to psychological and emotional experience. However, the reality is that the phenomenon of lack of space experience is not uncommon.Based on the above issues, this paper attempts to make a comprehensive study to the design of the external space of commercial pedestrian street according to the spatial experience from the perspective of space experience, phenomenological and psychological point of view. The article mainly analysis the commercial pedestrian street in Chongqing City about space experience, explore the principles of commercial pedestrian street external space design based on the spatial experience, and verify the "Guidelines" role of "space experience" in space design in order to provide a reference to the future of urban commercial pedestrian street external space design.The main structure of the paper follows the "raising questions(basic research)-analyzing the problems(theory + case study)- solving the problems(principles summary)" logical thinking, including the following sections:The first part is made up of the first and second chapter which mainly contains basic research and the issues raised, the main object of study and concepts, characteristics and problems of today’s commercial pedestrian street external space summarizing, the purpose and significance of the research to establish the foundation for further research and study.The second part is made up of the third and forth chapter which includes theoretical research and case study. First, clarifying the relationship between the external space of commercial pedestrian street and the spatial experience, summarizing the factors which affect the commercial pedestrian street external space experience to establish the foundation of case study. Then, analyzing the development of construction background in Chongqing City as well as commercial pedestrian street to select the four central commercial pedestrian street as the cases. Analyzing the induction common problems combined with theoretical research and case study analysis to provide the basis for the next step to propose solutions.The third part is the fifth chapter which proposes solutions to the problems based on the previous research. Summarizing principles of city commercial pedestrian street external space design based on spatial experience which related to the theme, situational, time and space, ambiguity, humane, participatory characteristic elements of commercial pedestrian street external space to guide commercial pedestrian street external space design.The fourth part is Chapter VI, the conclusion of the main results of the paper and shortcomings.The second and third part is the key content of this paper.
