With the rapid development of civil aviation industry, the complexity of grid in the airport will be growing with the increasing number and the size of airports. So it is vital to ensure that the power cable is running in security. Therefore, once the fault of power cable occurs, it is necessary to be detected quickly and accurately. It has important significance to locate the fault point to all departments in normal operation.In this paper, the basic knowledge of cable fault is analyzed first. Then traveling wave fault location is mainly introduced and the wavelet transform method is also introduced to help to decompose the fault signal wave. In order to confirming the singular signal, the method of wavelet modulus maximum is used to achieve the accurate positioning.There are two basic methods of traveling wave in this paper which name single terminal fault location method and double terminal fault location method are analyzed, which are also evaluated for their reliability and accuracy. A new combinational algorithm could be formed by combining the wavelet analysis method and one of the two kinds of fault ranging method.Through the simulation platform, the simulation model of airport power cable fault system is established. From the model, the waveform of fault cable is obtained. The last simulation also shows that the combinational algorithm is feasible and the accuracy of fault position is also improved obviously.A large number of simulation data based on the reality parameters is obtained, which shows that the power cable fault location can be achieved fast and accurate by using the location algorithm of single/double terminal traveling wave based on wavelet analysis to provide the technical support for the work of power cable fault location.
