Among current active flow control actuators, plasma high-energy synthetic jet(PHSJ) actuator is hopeful to realize the breakthrough of practical engineering application in high-speed flight direct-force control. This paper is based on the experiments, and the direct-force characteristics of PHSJ are systematic studied combined with numerical simulation and theoretical analysis.Combined with the characteristics of fast-response and short duration of PHSJ, a single line torsion pendulum system for impulse measurement is designed, and experimental measurements of the impulse are developed. A calculation method of micro-impulse without considering force parameters have been established. The measuremental accuracy of the impulse of plasma synthetic jet(PSJ) can reach to 1 μN ×s.Based on the thermal effect in the working process of the PSJ actuator, a phenomenological simulation method of PSJ actuator has been established, the flow field evolution process and the jet velocity/temperature characteristic of two-electrode SPJ actuator in jet exit during a whole cycle are analyzed. Combined with simulation and experimental results of jet impulse, showed that the gas heating efficiency is about 4% in the cavity of two-electrode SPJ actuator. while the main factors of the impulse of jet are studied by means of numerical simulation and experiment, the results showed that the impulse of SPJ actuator is mainly caused by the flow of the jet itself, the precursor shock due to pressure difference of the cavity of actuator and outside, has little impact on the impulse of SPJ jet.Based on the single line torsion pendulum system and its calculation method, the influential laws of direct-force characteristics of three-electrode SHPJ actuator by the structual parameters, driven parameters and environmental parameters are systematic studied. Combined with simulation and experimental results of jet impulse, showed that the gas heating efficiency is about 6% in the cavity of three-electrode SHPJ actuator, and also has the ability of fast response. As the input capacitor energy is same, compared with two-electrode actuator, the velocity of jet and precursor shock, and the strength of precursor shock are incread to about one times, by mean while the impulse of single-pulse jet increased to nearly six times.
