Surface topography characteristics of rolling bearing raceway have a great influence on the performance of bearings, such as friction, lubrication and life. And the reasonable design of topography can improve the properties. In order to study the effect of microtexture on the performance, and build the relationship between the parameters of three-dimensional(3D)surface topography and the performance of rolling bearings,by controlling the shape, depth and area ratio, six different microtextured inner raceway of 6010 deep groove ball bearings were designed and manufactured by laser surface texturing. All the surfaces were measured by non-contact 3D Optical Profiler Talysulf CCI Lite and characterized by ISO25178.Under the real working conditions, the bearings are in the state of elastohydrodynamic lubrication. The elastic deformation occur on the contact interface inevitably and then change the characteristics of EHL.So it is necessary to introduce the real surface topography to the EHL calculation and predict the interface topography and lubricating conditions during the working process. The surfaces after elastic deformation were rebuilt based on an EHL fast algorithm which named Amplitude Reduction and FFT.Comparison of 3D topography,2D surface roughness, spectrum and 3D topography parameters between original and deformed surface were conducted. Finally,a series of performance tests were carried out with the use of aircraft engine spindle bearing testing machine. The results show that microtexture reduce the carrying capacity of raceway significantly, and the parameters of texture have effect on the topography of raveway after wearing.Elastic deformation occurs on the raceway under EHL.The surface tend to be flat, the depth of microteture become lower, while the edge height slightly elevated. The lower frequency components of surface roughness are deformed obviously than the higher frequency components.Different surfaces have great differences in amplitudefrequency characteristics. At the same time, the 3D surface topography parameters are changed obviously and connected with the original surface topography. Therefore, the effect of elastic deformation should be considered during judging the perfomance of bearings.Otherwise,it will lead to the one-sided analysis and not conductive to the follow-up design work.
