On May 12,2008, a magnitude-8 earthquake occurred in Wenchuan County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous prefectures, Sichuan Province. The earthquake caused a large number of houses in rural area collapsed or destroyed which includes many raw-soil and stone masonry structure. While, there are few reserch on collapse resistance performance of raw-soil and stone masonry structure which have an obvious regional features in domestic. Their seismic performance are unclear. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to study the aseismic performance of traditional raw-soil and stone masonry structure under seismic load.This paper took the traditional raw-soil and stone masonry structure as the study object, analyzed the damage laws under the effect of earthquake to study the collapse resisting performance of this structure and provided some corresponding structural seismic reinforcement measures. The main work of this paper is as follows:(1) Through the compression and shear test on the local raw-soil of Aba Autonomous Prefecture, we got the mechanical performance index of raw-soil such as its cohesive force, internal friction angle, and unconfined compressive strength. We referred to the related literatures and code, then calculated, compared and analyzed the difference of intensity between raw-soil and stone masonry walls and brick masonry walls.(2) This paper describes the failure mode and destruction reasons of raw-soil and stone masonry structure after earthquake and provides an intuitive understanding of collapse resisting properties. We did the shear strength test on the raw-soil and stone masonry walls that were built in different ways. The test result of shearing force was 0.02Mpa, and the design value was 0.01Mpa.(3) With various setback areas, we did the modal analysis of the raw-soil and stone masonry walls and analyzed the collapse resisting property of such structure under the effect of earthquake wave by the numerical modeling calculation on the original model without structural columns and Cast-in-place Reinforced Concrete Plate and the improved one with the structural columns and Cast-in-place Reinforced Concrete Plate.(4) According to the previous collapse resisting analysis on the raw-soil and stone masonry structure under the effect of earthquake, this paper bring out the reasonable and feasible suggestions for improvement and measures to improve the seismic capacity of raw-soil and stone masonry structure.
