Tidal current energy is one of the most exciting emerging forms of available renewable energy.Unlike wind energy,which depends on wind changes,solar energy needs to rely on sun's rays,the tidal current energy is a kind of consistent energy caused by regular tidal cycles influenced by phase of the moon.Therefore,compared to wind,solar and other renewable energy's intermittent problem,tidal current have characters of continuity and predictability.The predictability of tidal power is very beneficial to grid management.So the research of tidal current is more and more popular in universities and research institutes.In the tidal current turbine,the back-end energy management determines the efficiency of the turbine's actual energy conversion.Especially in the situation that tidal current turbine haven't been large-scale commercial used,the research of back-end energy management is particularly important.In this paper,research object was the 50W tidal current turbine,in order to maximize the capture of tidal energy as well as translate captured energy to stable battery energy,the design and research of power electronic module of tidal current turbine was carried out.The design of hardware and software of electronic module for tidal current turbine and the corresponding battery charging test were completed,then,the sea test was also successfully completed as well as the wireless communication was tested.The paper is divided into six chapters,the contents of which are summarized as follows.The first chapter shows the importance of the subject and background of tidal current turbine research.This part summarizes the current research situation of control strategies for tidal current turbine,the research methods and theories of energy management.Finally this part summarizes the significance and contents of the research.The second chapter introduces the maximum power capture methods and battery charging strategy.This part deduces the theoretical basis of maximum power point tracking(MPPT),and discusses the commonly used maximum power tracking strategy.Also,the charging theory of the battery and battery charging strategy were studied.The third chapter introduces the system design of power electronic module of 50W power unit.The whole electrical system structure of the unit is analyzed,the calculation and selection of the hardware part and the compilation of the software part were finished.In chapter 4,the MATLAB/Simulink simulation study is carried out on the power electronic part of 50W tidal current turbine.The performance of maximum power tracking and battery charging at different flow rates were studied.Chapter 5 introduces sea test of the turbine.The performance of the control system of the offshore unit is introduced,including the maximum power point tracking,battery charging as well as wireless communication test.Chapter 6 summarizes the research work and achievements of this paper,and looks forward to the research direction and content in the future.
