With the rapid development of society, the environmental pollution is getting worse, the development of clean energy is imminent. In this case, as a kind of clean and renewable energy, the solar energy is the preferred choice of future energy.The energy storage devices like storage battery is needed while after the solar energy is transferred into electricity. How to utilize solar energy in maximum efficiency and achieve the fast charge while ensuring the safety of the lead-acid battery has become a hot topic in today’s society.The core control algorithm of Photovoltaic charging controller is consists of maximum power point tracking(MPPT) and achieve quick charge safety of storage battery, besides, the paper has a research on the photovoltaic charging controller of lead-acid battery, which mainly includes the following aspects:Firstly, the paper analyzes the working principle and characteristics of photovoltaic cells, the current commonly used MPPT method and the principle and characteristics of lead-acid battery is also analyzed. What’s more, a large number of charge-discharge test is done and the initial state of charge SOC prediction model and the acceptable charging curve model is established based on the lead-acid battery.Secondly, this paper designs the control method of photovoltaic charging controller, which include the MPPT method of the parabola extreme calculation and the corresponding charging method based on the battery acceptable charging curve model, in order to realize the fast charging of lead-acid battery safely.Finally, the hardware, software and upper machine of charging controller are designed, and this paper also analyzes the control effect of the charge controller. The MSP430F149 is the control center of hardware circuit and SEPIC topology circuit as the main circuit, to realize MPPT and control of fast charging by PWM. The experimental results show that the charge controller can realize the MPPT of photovoltaic cells and quick charge safely.
