Tar is an inevitable byproduct in the process of biomass gasification with complex composition.Aromatic compound as the mostly composition of tar included benzene, toluene, xylene, naphthalene, phenol and styrene, etc.Since the negative impact tar has on gas equipment, gasification system, ecological environment and human health, how to remove or reduce it becomes a key problem in the process of biomass gasification.Firstly, the biomass gasification technology and the formation mechanism, detriment and removing methods of biomass tar were introduced. The present research situation of the most advanced and effective catalytic pyrolysis methods for removing tar was described.Besides, some theories were introduced for the following experiments including the selection of biomass tar model compound,SiC porous foam ceramic, the preparation of catalyst and the main measuring indexes of catalytic cracking experiment. In this paper, phenol was used as the model compound of biomass tar and SiC porous foam ceramic was used as the carrier of nickel-based catalyst.Orthogonal experiment method was used for catalytic cracking of phenol on the experimental platform. The effects of different reaction conditions and different catalyst preparation conditions on the catalytic cracking of phenol were investigated. The effects of different reaction conditions such as reaction temperature(Tf),water-carbon ratio(S/C)and catalyst loading(E)on the catalytic cracking of phenol were investigated in the experimental study on the catalytic cracking of phenol. The main measuring indexes of catalytic cracking experiment included phenol conversion rate,H2 yield and H2 ratio,CO ratio,CH4 ratio in the catalytic pyrolysis gas products. The influencing degree and significance of every factor were analyzed and the best reaction conditions were decided by using range analysis method and variance analysis method. The effects of different catalyst preparation conditions such as calcination time(t),calcination temperature(Tb)and pore density of catalyst carrier(N)on the catalytic cracking of phenol were investigated in the experimental study on the catalytic cracking of phenol. The influencing degree and significance of every factor were analyzed and the best catalyst preparation conditions were decided by using range analysis method and variance analysis method. The SiC porous foam ceramics prepared under different calcination time and calcination temperature were analyzed by SEM,and the morphology changes were compared. Some theoretical support was provided for the catalytic cracking of biomass tar which can help for the selection of reaction conditions and catalyst preparation conditions.
