Sliding bearings are important friction parts in internal combustion engines,with crankshaft,piston pin compose important friction pair.In the internal combustion engine,copper and lead sliding bearings have a good tribological properties,and it have a wide range of applications.However,lead is a toxic substance,it has a great harm on people and environment.The development of lead-free bearing materials has become a hot topic in the field of bearings.In this paper,FeS is chosen as the self-lubricating phase instead of lead.The FeS copper-based bimetallic materials were prepared by powder metallurgy.Friction wear test and microscopic analysis show that FeS-based bimetallic materials have a good friction and wear properties.Besides,it also show the feasibility of FeS to replace lead.The results show that the experimental conditions have a great influence on the friction and wear properties of copper-based bearing materials.In the fixed oil lubrication condition,FeS copper-based bimetallic materials have a better friction and wear resistance than FeS-free copper-based materials.Under this condition,lubricating oil play a major role in lubrication.Once the lubricating oil film damaged,FeS could easily slip to the characteristics,so that it can be a good filling when oil film break,synergistic lubricants play a better anti-friction wear effect.In the step-by-step loading oil lubrication condition,FeS will increase with the load more and more to the friction surface and it could form a solid lubricating film,thus FeS play a better anti-friction effect,making FeS-containing bimetallic materials with anti-friction and wear resistance and its carrying capacity has been significantly improved.In the oil-free dry friction condition,the lubrication effect is only the FeS contained in the materials.The results show that the more FeS contents,the more complete the FeS solid film is formed on the surface of the abrasive,the more obvious of the friction reduction effect,and the friction pair operation is more stable.Compared with the traditional lead-containing material CuPb10Sn10,containing FeS copper-based bearing material in the friction and wear resistance performance reflects a better results.And there is still insufficient in carrying capacity,which needs further study.
