The performance of the gelled electrolyte has a very important role in the performance of the gel lead-acid battery. Only the performance of the gelled electrolyte prepared is excellent,it is possible to prepare a qualified lead-acid batteries. The filling process of the gel lead-acid battery is a bridge between the electrolyte and the battery. The filling is not to simply fill the electrolyte into the battery. If the filling process is not correct, even if the performance of the gelled electrolyte is excellent, the initial capacity and cycle life of gel batteries will also be deteriorative.Therefore, the research content of this paper is divided into the following two parts:(1) Study on preparation and properties of gelled electrolyteIn this paper, the effect of different aerosil content on the properties of gelled electrolyte was studied. By studying the gel state of the gelled electrolyte (including the viscosity of the electrolyte, the gel time, the gel state), to determine the content range of the aerosol. By CV,studying the effect of different content of aerosil on the discharging current and discharge capacity of lead electrode in electrolyte. And the effect of different content of aerosil on the charge transfer impedance of lead electrode in electrolyte was studied by means of AC impedance. So as to determine the optimum content of aerosol. And the micro morphology was observed by transmission electron microscope. Then the effect of different colloid stabilizers and sulfate on the properties of gelled electrolyte is studied. Again, the gel state of the gelled electrolyte (including the viscosity of the electrolyte, gel time, gel state) was studied. As well as through the cyclic voltammetry and AC impedance method, from the point of view of electrochemistry, the choice and content of colloid stabilizer, the choice and content of the sulfate were determined. Finally, determine the content of the aerosil is 4.5%, PVP was used as the colloid stabilizer, and the content was 0.12%, zinc sulfate was used as the additive, and the content was 0.8%. At this point, the electrolyte viscosity and gel time is appropriate, the gel state is white gel, better flexibility, the discharging current and discharge capacity of the lead electrode in the electrolyte is the maximum, and the charge transfer impedance is the least.(2) Study on the filling process of gel lead-acid batteryIn this paper,the filling process of gelled electrolyte is systematically studied. The prepared gelled electrolyte is filled in the battery case with different filling technology. The effect of different filling method, the stirring speed of the electrolyte before filled in the battery, the filling temperature and filling speed on the distribution of gelled electrolyte, initial capacity and cycle life of the battery is studied. In order to determine the optimum filling process is that mixed direct filling method was used as filling method, the stirring speed of the electrolyte before filled in the battery was 800r/min, the temperature was at low temperature (about 5 degrees Celsius)and the speed was 30mL/min. Thus a good performance of the gel lead-acid battery was prepared,which has a certain reference value for the industrial production of gel lead-acid batteries. It can be applied to the actual production.
