The Micropower Operation Mechanism Of The Garden Theme Generation In Wuhan International Garden Expo

Currently,with rapid development of social culture,garden has emerged as a form of cultural exchange in China,gaining wide attention from all sectors of society.In order to expound on the generation mechanism of the theme characteristics of gardens exhibited in the Garden Expo,this paper adopts the 10th China(Wuhan)International Garden Expo(hereinafter abbreviated as the "Wuhan International Garden Expo")as the research object,Foucault’s theory of power and space as the theoretical basis,and the microcosmic power operation mechanism as the analysis method.After multiple field surveys of the Wuhan International Garden Expo and referring to relevant basic theories and data,the author comes to the following conclusions:(1)The Wuhan International Garden Expo uses the microcosmic power operation mechanism of the local place for generation of its theme characteristics.The gardens on exhibition eulogize the cultural prosperity,happiness and economic development of the hometown.Driven by the Wuhan International Garden Expo,Wuhan shows the local economic and cultural development through these gardens.As a main approach to promoting development of tourism,these gardens have generated themes,including literary quotations of men of letters,famous landscape paintings,local customs and industrial structure.(2)The Wuhan International Garden Expo uses the microcosmic power operation mechanism of the subjects for generation of its theme characteristics.Designers from different cultural backgrounds and holding different positions constitute the specific points on the space and power network of gardens on exhibition.Designers of the four master gardens in Wuhan International Garden Expo represent neither the local government nor enterprises.They examine the Wuhan International Garden Expo based on their outlook on art,aesthetics and garden design,and combine their own knowledge system with the space of gardens on exhibition to form a subtle connection and to generate themes,including cultural reconstruction,cultural transmission and nature reconstruction.All this has greatly enriched the art of traditional Chinese gardens,and refreshes the stereotyped understanding of the Garden Expo.(3)The Wuhan International Garden Expo uses the microcosmic power operation mechanism of environmental criticism for generation of its theme characteristics.Enterprise gardens in the Garden Expo are an independent group,which observe the whole garden circles as bystanders.Proceeding from brownfield regeneration in the Wuhan International Garden,the author adopts gardens on exhibition as a medium to trigger public criticism of the environment and reflection on water sources,soil sources and household refuse.The Wuhan International Garden Expo uses the microcosmic power operation mechanism of the local place,subjects and environmental criticism to generate different garden themes.The generation process of these themes in the space of gardens on exhibition is a process of invisible operation of the above four kinds of microcosmic power operation mechanisms in the space of gardens on exhibition.Discussion of the operation mechanism behind themes of gardens on the Garden Expo can provide references for holding of the Garden Expo of different kinds in the future.
