On The Occurrence Of Informal Space In Cities From Foucault’s View Of Power

As an experienced animal,human beings’ growing environment plays an important role in their understanding of the world.When we grow up in the environment of a modern city and are influenced by modern civilization,everything that happens in the city is often regarded as correct subconsciously by us.We feel that this is what the city should be like,but unconsciously,we have been influenced by the power of modern discipline for a long time Ring.In the past 20 years,with the rapid development of urbanization,the scope of the city has expanded greatly,more traditional residential areas have entered the scope of the city.There has been a fierce conflict between tradition and modern.In the urban environment dominated by modern civilization,tradition has become a heterogeneous,and many spontaneous construction behaviors in traditional residential areas are more recognized because it’s informal.What is the role of traditional residential areas and so-called "informal" spaces in modern cities?Where does this negative perception come from?This paper chooses Shangcheng District of Hangzho,which has experienced many revolutionary developments in the past decades,as the main research area,and takes the remaining traditional residential areas in modern cities as the research subject.It tries to recognize and elaborate the abnormal phenomena which occur in Shangcheng District of Hangzhou City,which are different from those in the past,based on Michel Foucault’s view of power From the perspective of power,this paper analyzes the current situation of the formation of traditional residential areas in the city.Then,the informal space seen in the traditional residential area is summarized and analyzed by the method of typology.On this basis,the author chooses three different diachronic residential areas to find out the informal space and consider the reasons for the continuous development of the informal space,so as to reveal the interaction between the micro power and macro power from the bottom of the society and the influence of the discipline power on the formation of the current social state.At last,I think that the spontaneous construction originates from the way of life,and the rectification of traditional residential areas is actually the infiltration of residents’ life,and the discipline of modern power to unify people.Accordingly,the significance of the existence of informality is to break this unity and produce differences,so that people tend to be more natural rather than a production machine.
