With the high power and low emission requirements on generator set engine,the low and middle speed engine is not suitable and trends to be eliminated.Compared with the in-line engine,the V type engine has the advantage of the compact conformation,the small volume,the low weight,and it used more and more widely in large displacement engines.The crankshaft is the main part of the diesel engine.The reliability and durability of the engine mostly depends on the strength of the crankshaft.The size of crankshaft largely affects the whole size and weight of engine.With the rapid improvement of diesel engine performance,reliability and the emission requirement,the peak fire pressure is more higher,and the crankshaft needs more high strength and the low torsional vibration.Therefore,optimizing the structure of the crankshaft,torsional vibration and strength calculation analysis and safety evaluation of the diesel crankshaft system are important tasks in a new diesel engine development.The paper introduce the design process of 12M33 engine crankshaft which is used in generator set and designed by Weichai power company.According the engine purpose and the benchmark,the basic structure of crankshaft is designed.Then the inertia force and the moment of 1st and 2nd order,and the V12 crankshaft balance are caculated and analysed with the centrifugal forceand centrifugal moment theory.The paper chooses three concept designs,which are 4-balance weight,8-balance weight,and 12-balance weight.By comparing three schemes with bearing load,torsional vibration,we choose the best crankshaft structure of 12-balance weight.In order to keep the crankshaft`s low vibration,the damper is designed.Then design the 3D crankshaft model by Creo software,and simulate the strength,the torsional vibration with EXCITE designer software.After that,taking the bed test and modifying the crankshaft structure.The results show that the strength of the crankshaft meets the reliability requirement of 12M33 diesel engine.The design of 12M33 crankshaft laid the important theoretical basis of V type crankshaft.And the design experience has been accumulated.
