Research On Campus Space And Architecture Of Wuhan University From The Perspective Of Context

Wuhan University is considered to be the most beautiful campus in China,whose early campus space structure and architecture has a very high artistic value,and has been regarded as a reference to the follow-up campus construction,and then has significant impacts on new campus space and building.For a long time,policymakers and designers in campus construction have tried to establish links with early campus planning buildings,but faced with the dilemma of lack of theoretical guidance.Although the scholars have made a lot of valuable research on the campus and architecture of Wuhan University,these studies are mainly descriptive and lacked the rational analysis based on historical context and overall combing on time and space,and failed to give a clear definition of Wuhan University campus and architectural features.Taking this as the background,this paper explores the campus space and architecture of Wuhan University from the perspective of context through chart induction and graphic analysis.The main contents of the thesis were divided into two parts:the characteristics of fontal context study in Chapter 2 and 3 and context inheritance research in Chapter 4.In the second chapter,the paper combs the planning background such as the formation of Wuhan University and the new school construction reasons,and speculates on the location intention of Kales and related thinking in the course of campus planning through the combination of planning diagrams and the external influence factors like the higher education model,the extraterritorial planning thought,the Chinese early campus planning fashion and the terrain condition restriction.Though witch summarizes the characteristics of the campus planning level of Wuhan University.The third chapter,combined with several influence factors such as educational background of designer,architectural trends and architectural techniques in the Republic of China,discusses and summarizes the formal characteristics of the early architecture of Wuhan University from the aspects of architectural plane shape,facade language,space and structural system,detailed design,etc.In the forth chapter,this paper reviews and comments on the context inheritance of the campus construction activities after 1950s from the two aspects of the evolution of campus spatial form and campus architectural style referencing characteristics of the spatial pattern of Wuhan University and the early architectural forms induced in Chapter 2 and 3.On witch make some further summary and reflection.And finally,It summed up three basic inspiration for the contemporary by analysing campus planning and architectural design of Wuhan University,with a view to provide a more open mind to future campus renewal.
