With the rapid development of expressway construction in China, the stone resources excessive excavation problem has become increasingly severe. At the same time, due to the increase of vehicle load and overloading of vehicles, the early damage phenomenon of conventional asphalt concrete pavement is very common. In order to solve these two problems,it was proposed using steel slag and steel fiber to improve the conventional asphalt mixture. It not only improved asphalt pavement performance but also protected the environment, which has important economic and social benefits. In this paper, the main research contents include the test of raw materials, mineral mixture ratio design, the determination of the optimum bitumen content and road performance test four parts.Based on the synthesis of gradation curves of AC-13 steel slag asphalt mixture and the determined optimum asphalt-aggregate ratio, through the analysis of laboratory tests, the paper researched the effects of steel slag and steel fiber on mixture's high temperature stability, low temperature crack resistance, water stability and volume stability and obtained the optimal dosage of steel fiber.Experimental results show that steel slag can effectively improve the high temperature performance and water stability of mixture.Besides, the steel fiber can improve the low temperature performance of the mixture. And this type of mixture has good volume stability and corrosion resistance. The research showed that steel fiber AC-13 steel slag & gravel asphalt mixture not only has good road performance, but also possibly solves the waste of steel slag resources and protection of stone resource problem, worthy of further promotion and application.
