Study On Pavement Performance Of Steel Slag&Gravel Asphalt Mixture

As a byproduct in the steelmaking process, the steel slag brings new pollutionwhether it is stacked or burnt etc.... If the steel slag is used in road construction as amajor road building materials, it will not only solve the problem of over-excavation ofstone resources, but also preserve the ecological environment for human. Furthermore,it has numerous potential applications for engineering. This paper focuses on steel slagproduced by Kunming Iron and Steel Company as the object of study, it analysis thepavement performance of steel slag as the main aggregate used in asphalt mixture. Thispaper gets the relevant conclusions and the subsequent research is proposed.In this paper, the following aspects of study are: It analyzed the chemicalcomposition of the steel slag, it also analyzed the physical properties,natural gradationand mechanical properties of steel slag, This paper analyzed steel slag using as asphaltmixture aggregate for asphalt pavement construction is feasible or not.Through theselection and testing of raw materials, mineral mixture ratio design and asphalt mixtureratio design the three parts of theoretical and experimental analysis to determine theAC-13type of fine-grained asphalt concrete, and the ATB-25type of coarse-grainedstabilized macadam asphalt mixture two kinds of steel slag&gravel asphalt mixturesynthetic gradation curve and the optimum proportion, laid the foundation for furtherstudy.According to meteorological conditions of Kunming region, this paper analyzedand evaluated five aspects of high temperature stability, low temperature crackresistance, water stability, surface characteristics and anti-expansion. Focusing on thelong duration Kunming sunshine, large amount of ultraviolet radiation per year, thispaper analyzed and evaluated the influence on steel slag&gravel asphalt mixturepavement performance with light aging and it compared with the same type of normalasphalt mixture pavement performance with light aging and presented the light agingdelaying measures of steel slag&gravel asphalt mixture.This paper analyzed andevaluated the scocial and economic benefits for steel slag used in asphalt roadconstruction.
