The exact calculation of the burning area of burning surface of propellant grain is essential to internal ballistic performance calculation. Based on the advantages and disadvantages of Level Set method and VOF method, S-CLSVOF(Simple Coupled Level Set and Volume Of Fluid) method is one of the effective numerical methods to treat with the changes of burning surface of the propellant grain. Compared with the traditional interface capture methods, S-CLSVOF method is easy to realize the initial design of the propellant grain and automatically handles the changes of interface. S-CLSVOF method has another advantage of handling the large deformation problem easily.The S-CLSVOF method which is based on OpenFOAM as a platform, to handle the interface changes accurately can not only capture the changes of the burning surface of the complex propellant grain,but also calculate the area of the burning surface accurately which is used to calculate the interior ballistics. It provides the basis for the interior ballistics research with the erosive combustion and couples of fluid and solid. The main contents of this paper are as follows:In this paper, the focal point is to develop codes, which can treat with the problems of the changes of the burning surface of the complex propellant grain with the S-CLSVOF method. With the help of numerical simulations of typical 2-d and 3-d cases, the validity of the codes can be verified.Burning surface calculation of complicated geometry grain,grain with flaw was performed.The results show that this new method has very high precision,and it provides a helpful method for the quality analysis of grain with defect.The burning surface area of the complex propellant grain is simulated with the codes.Compared with traditional methods, the results show that the codes do well in the problems of the changes of the burning surface of the complex propellant grain.Buring surface calculation of grain with changing buring rate or multi-buring rate was performed.This work can provide a foundation for coupling grain burnback process to Solid Rocket Motor chamber flowfield numerical simulation?...
