With the increasing depletion of terrestrial resources, people set their sights on the vast ocean and promote the further development of marine resources. Against this background,marine economy and marine vessel industry have been unprecedented rapid development.With the increasing demand for high performance marine equipments and ships, the ship propellers which are the key equipment to marine engineering face a strict requirement directly affect the performance of the ships and better developments to ocean for humans. In marine propeller field, the cycloidal propeller which has a excellent maneuverability cause widespread concerns by scholars. It has many advantages, for example, it can change the thrust force on direction and numerical magnitude continuously and quickly; fast dynamic response and strong wind resistance, which will have an important influence on improving our country high performance ships and marine equipments.Firstly, this paper analysis and summarize the research status of cycloidal propeller at home and abroad, the history of cycloidal propeller's development,the theory method to research cycloidal propeller and the future trends. An introduction to the CFD basic theory and the basic equations in fluid dynamics should be stated. At the same time, it makes a discussion on the numerical simulation of different turbulence models.Secondly, this paper simulates a pitch oscillation NACA0012 blade motion which includes pure heaving, pure pitching and coupling motion for hydrodynamics performance.Simultaneously, an discussion about affecting the blade performance by different frequency,different angle of amplitude, different pith amplitude etc.Thirdly, introduce the working principle of cycloidal propeller as well as build a reasonable 2d numerical model by a proper way. Based on the NACA0012 blade, the numerical results would be compared with the NSRDC experiments' data which verify the feasibility to the method and model. Then, build a new 2d numerical model based on the NACA0012 and discussed the hydrodynamics performance on the different eccentricity ratio.This paper also gives the blade hydrodynamics performance which offers the base for designing and checking blade strength for future.At last, this paper builds the numerical model for the twin cycloidal propellers and discusses the interaction between the twin cycloidal propellers based on the direction of rotation, different blade phase angle and different interval between the twin propellers.Simultaneously, a preliminary discussion has been made on coaxial contrary rotating propeller.It will provide an important reference for the future development of twin cycloidal propeller ships' installation.
