Owing to the serious environmental pollution and increasing consumption of fossil energy, the use of renewable energy and energy storage system has drawn more attention.Especially, due to the large amount of greenhouse gas emission and low efficiency caused by the ship, this thesis focuses on the application of renewable energy into a ship power station and proposes a novel method to determine the optimal layout of renewable energy as well as the size of various types of distributed generations. With the help of the proposed algorithm, both the ship system cost and emission are reduced much. The research not only indicates that the technology of renewable energy provides a new solution for traditional ship power system but also promoted the development of marine engineering.Firstly, the mathematical models of photovoltaic (PV) generation system, wind power generation system, energy storage system and diesel generator are established and the uncertainties of solar energy and wind source are taken into consideration. The advantages of photovoltaic generation system and wind power generation system are summarized. The irradiation depends on the date, local time, latitude and longitude along the navigation route and shadow impact is considered in the PV model. According to the sailing direction and ship speed, the relative speed between nature wind and ship are taken into account in the wind generation model. Furthermore, lead-acid battery is modeled as energy storage system and the state of charge is analyzed.Secondly,optimize the layout of the PV panels and the size of energy storage system.According to the shape of the ship, the research select a large oil tanker ship as the research object and optimal analyze the layout of the PV modules based on the navigation route from Dalian in China to Aden in Yemen. After detailed analysis, to install PV panels in a horizontal way is the best for the ship considering shadow impact. Then the maximum power of ESS is determined by the difference between the expected value and real output power by the PV model. Moreover, Genetic Algorithm is utilized to optimally allocate the energy storage system and the operation cost of PV model, capital cost of ESS and emission are reduced.Finally, optimally analyze the layout of wind generators and determine the size of energy storage system. Unlike power system on land, it is necessary to consider the relative speed between the wind source and the ship in the optimal layout analysis for the wind power generation system on shipboard. Thus, due to the uncertainties of the wind power, the capacity of the ESS is optimized by Genetic Algorithm. With the help of the developed approach, not only the total cost but also the greenhouse gas emission are reduced.
