As the elementary unit of the city,urban residential area is a typical geographical unit in urban spaces,as well as one of the basic units in 3D urban modeling.In general,urban residential area,which has clear boundary and interface change with external area,is a relatively independent area from planning to ultimate management,and has its own internal coordination.Current studies mostly focus on 3D city and building modeling,which are in macro scales and micro scales respectively.However,between these two scales,that is in middle and small scale,researches on 3D modeling of residential area is obviously inadequate.Urban residential area has more delineated sections,clearer functionality and systematic characteristics and it contains plenty of artificial terrains and complex micro topography,which makes it different from city model.Also,3D modeling of residential area presents boundary of several buildings,which is not a part of micro-scaled modeling such as 3D building modeling.Thus,unlike city or building modeling,the specific data model of urban residential area need to be designed.At the same time,the presentation of micro terrain is an inevitable part in 3D modeling of residential area.On the other hand,sampling based on the real objects,such as LiDAR and photogrammetry,is the main methods for building 3D models in current studies,while the construction plans,which include rich 3D information,is rarely used.This paper implements 3D modeling of residential area on the basis of construction plan.The main research contents and results are as follows:1.Create 3D data model in an urban residential areaFrom these three aspects:residential area landuse,geographical entity and system function,residential elements are summarized and analyzed.Furthermore,the syntax,geometry,relation and attribute information of residential entities are fully discussed,and finally the conceptual model is created.2.Extract features in urban residential area from construction plansThis paper summarizes the contents on construction plans,automatically extracts the entities,landuse and systems in residential area,then proposes data storage methods facing to original construction plan,geographical entities,landuse data and functional systematic data.3.Build a 3D model of urban residential area based on construction plansAccording to the construction plan and the realistic characteristics,this paper summarizes that there are three terrain features,that is "constant","gradual" and"mutational",and puts forward 3D modeling of residential area method based on terrain unit division.According to the different characteristics of geographical entity,this paper proposes 3D modeling method of geographical entities such as the buildings,roads,public facilities,plants,water;and implements the integrated 3D modeling within different plots,ultimately,achieves 3D modeling of residential area.The result shows that the data model in a residential area can effectively support 3D modeling;the extraction method is able to identify the geographical entities only with a few manual work;in addition,the 3D modeling of residential area results can meet visual and applied demand.To sum up,this paper provides effective methods which have theoretical and practical significances.
