UV detection as a new non-electricity detection technology has become increasingly common in power system high voltage detection field.On the basis of "high-voltage power transmission equipment typical UV spectrum library Establishment and UV detection Corona quantitative research" project in Guangzhou EPRI,we researched analyzed the factors affecting UV detection technology.This paper introduces UV detection technology development and the relevant knowledge of the principle of corona discharge.By comparing the experiment results of the needle-plate electrodes corona discharge and fault insulator discharge,we can safely come to the conclusion that UV photon counting rate device is affected by some different factors,including gain,detection distance,humidity viewing angle etc,especially in gain and detection distance.For a certain quantitative criteria to the ultraviolet photon counting rate,the author also utilize finite element method to analysis the electric filed for 220kV glass insulators surroundings,it is easy to find the relationship between inferior insulators and surrounding electric field in different position of the insulator strings.Results inferior influence insulator strings at different locations around their farms.Through the analysis of the electric field around the insulator burr,we can obtained different voltages spikes around the size of an electric field,comparing the electric field with photon counting rate in different voltage,we can know the relationship between them.Experimental studies is clarified that UV detection technology as a new non-power detection technology in power system with easy,convenient,intuitive and does not affect the normal operation of equipment when it detects has a great value.To simulate the electric field around the insulator string we can find that damaged insulators has different impact on the surrounding electric field in different position of the insulator string.It can provides a new idea for quantify ultraviolet photons by comparing the different electric field around burr with it's discharge photon count rate.
