With global warming and sea-level rise,the damage to coastal areas,such as storm surge and coastal erosion,is more and more serious.In recent years,the climate is abnormal,the disaster weather,such as tsunami,occurs frequently,which poses a serious threat to people’s lives and property in coastal areas.It is necessary to study the reduction of natural disasters.Planting trees,which has been proved to be a more practical method than concrete,can reduce bank erosion and prevent tsunami.Today,with the target of sustainable development,coastal plants play a more and more significant role in bank protecting and wave damping.Coastal plants protect bank and damp waves because of the wave and plant’s interaction.Through the wave flume experiment of vegetation model,the study of the effect of roots,trunks and crowns on wave transformation is theoretically significant.In this paper,the research of the plant’s effect on wave propagation is carried out.The generalized physical vegetation is made by plastic ball set,PVC plastic pipes and polyethylene.Through the wave flume experiment of vegetation model,study the plant’s effect on propagation of solitary waves,regular waves and irregular waves.The effect of hydrodynamic factors and vegetation factors on wave propagation is studied by changing principle factors,such as water deep,incident wave height,the vegetation density and so on.The effect of plant roots,trunks and crowns on wave propagation is studied by changing vegetation models.With measured data,the wave damping formula of solitary wave,regular wave and irregular wave is obtained,which provides some reference for the future study.
