With the development of large-scale petrochemical, coal chemical industry and the construction of the third generation nuclear power, large lifting and transport projects on the requirements of the crane is becoming more and higher. As the main crane of large and heavy lifting, the role of the 3000 ton crawler crane in the above lifting project cannot be replaced.The main boom system of the crawler crane is an important determinant factor of the lifting performance. For further research on the structure characteristics of large tonnage crawler crane boom system and relevant design problems, 3000 t crawler crane boom system is designed and analyzed.According to the development of large crawler cranes in recent years, the main boom structure with double booms is an embodiment of the modular design idea. The characteristics of several structural forms such as the parallel booms frame, is summarized, compared, and analyzed. The type of parallel double-boom frame is selected, for designing and researching on the structure of the main boom of the 3000 ton crawler crane.It is put forward that, the number and distribution of the lateral-connection structure between two booms directly affect the overall performance of the boom. Therefore, it is designed that a number of combination on 60 m, 90 m, 120 m length of the main boom, a comparison of the different number and position of the transverse connection structure are analyzed. At the same time, following the modular modeling idea, the finite element model of boom sections is established in ANSYS software. With the Excel VBA programming language, APDL ANSYS program is automatically generated to implement multiple functions such as batch combination, connections, loading, solving and so on.In the typical calculation conditions, the above comparison models were calculated and analyzed, with emphasis on the lateral displacement of the boom and the stress of chord. The results show that the lateral-connection structure has great influence on the lateral displacement and the strength of the boom structure. As the main boom of the 3000 ton crawler crane is long, according to the conclusion of this paper, it is recommended that the design of two or three lateral-connections in the structure of the main double boom is necessary, which located in the bottom, the middle and the top of the boom. Thus bothstructure stiffness and strength of the boom are improved. This structure has been implemented and verified in the existing products.Finally, several types of double-boom frame are modeled, for analysis and comparison.Comprehensive comparison, parallel double boom frame main boom structure with horizontal connection, in terms of overall strength, stiffness and stability has some advantages. In addition, comparing with the traditional crawler crane boom structure, this kind of boom frame has a strong inheritance in the manufacturing process, so its production process,structure and economy also have the advantage of non-negligible.Through 3000 ton crawler crane main boom system design, research and analysis, the advantage of the main boom system with parallel double-boom is summarized, which has certain guiding significance on design and optimization of main boom system of large crawler crane.
