Steel tubular joint is widely used for long-span public structures and high-rise buildings for its graceful shape and superiority in mechanical behavior.As a new type of steel tubular joint,the welded spatial partition plate tubular joint is rarely discussed although it has been used in several practical engineering,which impede the development of design theory and further use of this kind of joints.Based on this,the behavior of the welded joint is studied by means of experimental study and three dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis(FEA).Some useful conclusions are proposed afterward,which can give some advice to the design and manufacture of this kind of joints.Major contents are as follows.1)Three full-scale joint tests are carried on including static and hysteretic experiments under axial force.By analyzing the experiment results,behavior of the joint is revealed which includes the elastic stiffness,bearing capacity,failure mode and hysteretic behavior.Results indicate that the joint is reasonably designed and the bearing capacity is two times more than the designing load which can surely fulfill the requirement stipulated by Chinese codes.2)A three-dimensional dual non-linear FEA is conducted to investigate further behavior of partition joint.By considering element type,element density,bounding condition,element type and other factors,the finite element model is optimized and proved to conform with the experiment models.Afterwards,five different force conditions are introduced in the calibrated finite element model to evaluate over-all behavior of the welded joint.3)In order to elaborate the effect of each parameters of the welded joint,ninety-five finite element model are conducted including planar joint and spatial joint.As a result,radius-thickness ratio,intersecting angle and thickness of elliptical plate are considered as the three most important factors to the behavior of the welded joint.By summarize results of test and FEA,some improvement measures are provided to the configuration and processing of this kind of joint.
