With the wide use of electronic devices and nonlinear loads, the pollution of harmonic current to the power system become increasingly bad. It is great meaningful to study the active power filter as one of the main research directions to compensate the harmonic current.In this paper, the structure and principle of shunt active power filter which was used widely were elaborated. The detection algorithms were compared. The algorithm of p?q and ip?iq based on the theory of instantaneous reactive power was choose as the detection algorithm of shunt active power filter. Deadbeat control, triangular carrier waveform control and hysteresis current control have been researched and compared, and the last one was choose. The reason of DC-side voltage fluctuation was analyzed and the method to control the fluctuation was given.In this paper the parameters of the main circuit of the active power filter were designed. The control circuit was designed based on the TMS320F2812 DSP. The program of the system was designed by the requirement of sampling, computation and PWM control.At last, the harmonic current detection and control system of the active power filter were simulated by the SIMULINK. The result showed that the harmonic current was greatly compensated by the active power filter.
