As thecontinuous development of the auto industry, automobileis becomingmore and more an indispensable part ofour modern life. Meanwhile, people’s demand for automobiles also brings energy problems and heavy pressures on environmental protection.Lightweightdesign of automobile structure isone of the most effective ways to lower energy consumption and reduce emission, and to reduce the weight of steel sheetis the most effective wayto achieve that purpose. However, reduce material usage andthickness of the steel sheet would probably affect the structural safety of the car. To resolve this contradiction, steel sheet with high strength are widely used.Due to the natural properties of high strength steels, it’s hard to form in cold forming methods, and so we usually adopt hot forming to manufacture high strength steel sheets. Research of the technologiesof hot forming is paid more and more attention. This paper investigatesthehot forming quenching processof high strength steel, whichis established as a key research subject of the writer’s company. By studying the cooling process parameters including "surface pressure" and "cooling water flowrate" on the influence of cooling effect, it aims to find a set of optimized parametersfor hot stamping tooldesigns.Furthermore,a cooling experiment on U-shaped steel sheet and cooling simulation ofU-shaped part are conducted. A comparison between the results ofthe validation testsand the numerical simulation is made with the discussion of theaccuracy and feasibility of the simulation method of high strength steel hot stamping process, seeking to provide more implications for parametric design and technical preparation.
