Hollow Section Structures(HSS)has been widely used in industrial and civil building constructions,because of the advantages of the beautiful appearance and excellent mechanical properties.There are many kinds of tube joints.Branch plate-HSS connections are popular thanks to the simple of force transmission.However,the reseatch on K-type RHS joints connected with longitudinal plate is rare at home and abroad.Now,there are no rules about this kind of joints in the code for design of steel structures in our country.In this paper,static behavior of K-type RHS joints connected with longitudinal plate would be conducted.The details are presented as follows:(1)Static tests were carried out on eight K-type RHS joints connected with longitudinal plate.The test parameters ware the length of the plate and and whether the siffening rib was set.The phenomenon during the test of the specimens were recorded and the failure modes were summarized.Then,the experimental data were analyzed and the influence of each parameter on the ultimate strength of the joints was analyzed.(2)The finite element model was established to simulate the specimens by ANSYS on the basis of the tests.The solid element SOLID95 was used when building the finite element model.At the same time,the geometric sizes,the material properties,the loading mode and the boundary conditions were the same as the test.The fillet of the RHS and the weld connecting the gusset plate and the chord was considered.By comparing the load displacement curves,the ultimate strength and the failure modes with the experimental results,the accuracy of the finite element model was verified.(3)The parameter analysis of the K-type RHS joints connected with longitudinal plate was finished.The main parameters influenc ing the ultimate strength and the failure mode were included,ratio of the length of the gusset plate to the width of chord member?,ratio of the effective thickness of the gusset plate to the width of chord member?,ratio of half of the width of chord member to the thickness of chord member ?,angle between the web member and the chord member?,the eccentricity e0/h0,the height of the chord h0,the yield strength of the chord fy,as well as the size effect.(4)Based on the results of a large number of finite element models,the proposed formula for calculating the ultimate strengh of K-type RHS joints connected with longitudinal plate was obtained by using multiple regression method.The accuracy of the proposed formula is verified by comparing the calculated results of the proposed formula with the experimental results.
