Research On Landscape Planning Of Immigranted And Reconstructed Small Towns In The Three Gorges Reservoir Area

In 1994,the construction of world’s largest Hydro-Junction project—the Yangtze Three Gorges Project has formally begun.Many villages(towns)or cities in reservoir area which have great history and culture would sink beneath the river due to the rise of water level as the result of accumulation of dam water,a relocation of residents was necessary as consequence.Until 2010,the mission to settle the “immigrants” has been fulfilled under the pressure of tough geographical situation,poverty issue and environment problem.It has been more than 20 years since the day the dam was built,great achievements have been accomplished in the construction of the new home of people with good living condition,the functionality of cities or villages was nearly recovered,into the important period of development called “post era of Three Gorges”.However,crisis showed up that original cultural and historical feature of the place can hardly be rebuilt as the hardware,the rashness to resettle people contributed to a lower standard of construction,blind expansion of city and unawareness of city management and planning.Motivated by this,a research on the feature planning of the new settlement area was conducted,finding ways to recover the image of cities or even deepen its feature and to improve people’s living condition as well,hoping to achieve a higher standard of city civilization,to meet the development demand of immigranted and reconstructed small towns in the “post era of Three Gorges”.All the work has been done on the base of real place investigation and practice,it could be shown as following:Literature review goes as first part.Related researches on the planning of Three Dam’s “immigrant” villages(towns)or cities and geographical researches are studied with the consideration of some other linked domestic or oversea works.Next,the work focused on types of town features in old days,pointing out typical problems right now of this new “immigrant” place in reservoir.The reason of the phenomenon is then being concluded from the perspective of history to give an objective statement.At end,a new feature planning method made for the resettlement place called “divide→interpret→extract→rebuild” would be established using a “division reconstruction and multisystem collaboration” theory platform.Take Wuling Town(Chongqing City,Wanzhou Area)where all the residents has been relocated due to the project as the example to make a detailed case study on its town feature problem.“Divide and interpret” where the town feature problem is at first place,“Extract” its theme as the indicator of further work,and finally “rebuild” the spine of the town feature system to improve the image of the place.
