Intersections are key nodes of network traffic,and efficient traffic organization is of great importance to improve the efficiency of intersection.In other developed countries,unconventional intersections are getting more and more attention of government.Optimizing design scheme of unconventional intersection could reduce investment of traffic construction,at the same time it helped increase the traffic capacity and safety.However,research on unconventional intersection is rare,and the application and evaluation are still at the initial stage considering the research gap between China and foreign developed countries.Unconventional intersections get quite a number of advantages,such as increasing capacity and safety,reducing construction investment.Therefore,research on unconventional intersection is of great importance to relieve traffic congestion in our country.Through analyzing five kinds of foreign unconventional intersection design schemes and traffic organization modes,the paper aimed to provide traffic planners and road designers with new methods to solve traffic congestion.Combining with the queuing theory,vehicle lateral safety width,and lane changing trajectory of vehicle and other theoretical basis,the paper established some calculation models to research reasonable technique index of left-displaced intersection,such as length and width of left-displaced lane,the distance between left-displaced lane and its approach.According to the traffic flow characteristic,signal phase scheme and signal timing model were put forward.Also,signal timing scheme was optimized by green-wave traffic.At last,through establishing the simulation models of conventional intersection and left-displaced intersection and analyzing such difference as queue length,number of parking and vehicle delay between two intersections,the paper had proven that left-displaced intersection did have a lot of operation superiority.
