The twentieth century is an overground era and the 21 st century is an underground era.With the improvement of people's living standards and new technology innovation,space development and utilization has already come into the engineers' sight.Hydropower is still an important power source for developing countries,and the structure configurations of hydropower plant indispensably include deep underground space,caverns and so on.It is a significant part of design of power plant to compress excess electricity into gas stored in the cavern at certain pressure by air compressors.Hence,the underground gas storage structure is the decisive factor of the location of compressed air energy storage(CAES)power station.Based on the importance of deep underground caverns in water power plants,this paper makes static calculations for the caves with different depths,cross-sectional shapes,cross-sectional dimensions and spacing.Meanwhile,the mechanical properties of deep buried gas structures under earthquake action are worthy of attention and study for engineers.Consequently,the dynamic calculations are made by the first 20 s seismic waves measured from Wenchuan Wolong station with different depths,cross-sectional shapes,cross-sectional dimensions and spacing.The main results of this paper are as follows:(1)Under the static condition,the depth of the cavern has a great influence on the mechanical properties of the cavity,and the suitable depth is 300 m.The size of the cavern has a small effect on the mechanical properties of the cavity.The shape of the cavern has a significant impact on the mechanical properties of the cavity,and circular cavern is superior to the horseshoe-shaped chamber.The chamber spacing poses a small impact on the mechanical properties of the cavity when the spacing is three times greater than the diameter of the cavity.(2)Under the dynamic effect,the depth of the cavern has a great influence on the dynamic characteristics of the cavern,and the suitable depth is 300 m.The cross-sectional size of the cavern has a small effect on the dynamic characteristics of the cavern.The cross-sectional shape of the cavern has a larger effect on the dynamic characteristics of the cavern,and circular caverns are superior to horseshoe cavities.The chamber spacing poses a small impact on the mechanical properties of the cavity when the spacing is three times greater than the diameter of the cavity,and the chamber spacing has a negligible effect on the mechanical properties of the cavity when the spacing is six times greater than the diameter of the cavity.(3)Based on the fuzzy mathematical analysis method,the circular cavern is superior to the horseshoe cavity.
