As a power equipment of the overhead transmission lines,the transmission tower is extremely important for the safety,reliable and economic of the power system operation.The collapse and damage of transmission tower happen occasionally,wind load is the primary dynamic load of the transmission tower.Therefore,it is necessary to study the wind load of the transmission tower.According to the study of the wind load of the transmission tower,this paper presents a method by using a sectioned real size transmission tower model to conduct the wind tunnel test.The most representative 5-segment model is selected and a wind tunnel test is designed,then the wind tunnel test model is conducted under different wind speed and wind angles.In order to further analyze the influence of the area of the model,the extra wind tunnel test is carried out.Based on the results of wind tunnel test,the relationship between the wind load of the model and the wind speed is obtained.With the increase of the wind speed,the wind load on the model varies approximately exponentially,and the different structure consistent with the same variation;For a certain wind speed,the wind load of the model and the wind angle is approximately in line with the sine function variation,the maximum or minimum of the wind load will appears in some angles,and the value appears in different angles by different models.The wind load characteristics of each part of the tower can be obtained from the segmented test model,and the wind load of the tower under high wind speed can estimated by extrapolating the wind load under low wind speed based on the similarity ratio.Finally,the wind load distribution characteristics in the tower are obtained under different wind speed,which can provide reference for the design of transmission tower wind load.
