The smart grid is the next generation of power systems has a large number of applications, for which the data transmission reliability is of great importance. However, the existing routing protocols,i.e.CTP(Collection Tree Protocol),LEACH(Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy)and HWMP(Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol),are not applicable to smart grid.In this paper,we propose the RHA(Reliability History Algorithm)and RH-HWMP protocols.RH-HWMP protocol provides reliable data transmission for the smart grid. The main idea of RHA is to collect and utilize the historical performance of paths to estimate the correlation of link quality between paths. The main idea of RH-HWMP protocol is to use a greedy path selection algorithm to select backup paths with minimum fault dependence based on the reliability history of links, that is,the probability of these paths failing at the same time in history is as low as possible.Once the main path fails, the node will immediately switch to the backup path, which can effectively improve the robustness and error tolerance of the network. We implement and evaluate the RH-HWMP protocol on the NS-3 simulation platform. The results show that the RH-HWMP protocol can enhance the robustness of the network.
