Public transit is an effective method to solve urban traffic problems and environmental problems brought by urban traffic as a green sustainable way.However,public transit is weak during the competition with private cars,especially in low-density areas.Low accessibility makes peple unwilling to use public transit,which furthermore leads to the low efficiency of transit system.This phenomenon makes public transit system fall into a vicious circle.As a consequence,service quality of public transit is urgent to improve.Flexible transit has the features of low cost of fixed-route transit and flexibility of demand-responsive transit as a new transit service system.It is important to enhance attraction of public transit.The research on request stop location is an important step to study flexible transit.Three aspects of research work concerning request stop location problems have been done in this paper.Firstly,several factors about stop location are analyzed and a model of request stop location is built by minimizing cost of the system.Algorithm is designed to calculate the model.Secondly,transit quality analytical model of fixed-route transit and request-stop transit is built.Influence of three setup parameters containing stop spacing,service area width and trip desity to system performance index of two transit modes is analyzed.Simulation is made with MATLAB to verify the validation of the model.Thirdly,layout methods of fixed stops of flexible transit are studied.Location principles and implementation suggestion of request stops from the aspect of engineering are obtained by using the experience of conventional transit.The implementation process of request stop location of flexible transit is given from the aspect of planning,which can provide guidance for determining the location of request stops.Simulation results verify the validation of the analytical model.Research shows that increase stop spacing,service area width and trip density "will enhance the probability of setting the request stops.Meanwhile,the average cost of passengers will be increased.When the stop spacing is in the range of 1?1.25 km,request-stop transit system achieves better performance than fixed-route transit system.When the stop spacing of request-stop system is greater than 1.25 km,fixed-route transit system achieve better performance than request-stop transit system.The value of key passenger trip density ?c is between 40 person per hour and 60 person per hour.When the density is over ?c,fixed-route transit is better.When the desity is smaller than ?c,request-stop transit is better.
