| With the progress of science and technology,China’s architecture,engineering and construction(AEC)Industry is shifting towards Industrialized Building approach.Introduction of Smart Fabricatio in AEC Industry has provided additional support to pace the Industry’s development.The conventional model which is still being practiced in China’s AEC Industry is fragmented into Design-Engineer-Construct-Operate&Manage and each of the fragments have challenges and hurdles.Usage of Internet and BIM technology as the fundamental for the shift towards Industrialized approach has brought much wider platform for improvement and progress.This thesis is the study of the application of BIM in the whole process of Industrialized Building Engineering.Firstly,the introduction overviews and analyzes the development of building industrialization.The study includes development in China’s AEC Industry,the barrier and bottleneck in development of Chinese AEC Industry,the way forward of the development.Following,the study elaborates the importance and necessity of BIM technology for Industrialization of AEC Industry,also has in-depth literature review of related researches worldwide,and has explained the purpose and methodology of this research.Secondly,the thesis includes more in-depth study related to BIM.The chapter details of how BIM is not just a software but a platform that integrates other technology to achieve information sharing and exchange.The thesis then analyses the advantages and economic benefits of usage of BIM technology.How it creates values by optimizing each stage of the project,with the function of visualization,coordination among project stakeholders and virtual simulation.Also,project approach optimization for the budget control by upgrading the design precision,improving project quality and achieving efficient space planning and utilization.The study also summarizes the integration of BIM with other supporting technologies such as RFID,3D Sensor,3D scanner,and explains how BIM is used in the whole life cycle of the building,how the data and information collection is centered in the BIM model.Following,the thesis elaborates the advantage of BIM in different phases of building in the whole life cycle,using the WBS analysis method.The study includes usage and application of BIM in design phase,fabrication phase,installation phase,operation and management phase.Then there is a cost-benefit analysis of usage of BIM for the whole life cycle of Industrialized Building Engineering.Primarily,there is study related to theoretical aspects of the cost benefit analysis,including the concept of cost and benefit,usage and evaluation indicators.Subsequently,there is a cost benefit analysis on application of BIM in the whole Process of Industrialized Building Engineering.Based on this study,there is a resulting cost benefit analysis method that is used as the fundamental for following empirical analysis of the case project.Finally,the study concludes with the empirical case study of Broad Homes’ Lugu American town project.Analyzed the application of BIM and other integrated technologies for the industrialized building engineering,and also the cost benefits,compared with actual data.In the case project of Lugu American town,BIM is utilized in design phase,fabrication phase,job-site installation phase and the facility management phase.The case study explains how application of BIM brought coordination among different stakeholders,deduced the detected clashes in structures,improved the information content in design and deduced the potential repetition and loss during construction phase and the complete,optimized facility information for operation and maintenance.The case study concludes the advantage and value of integrated BIM for the whole life cycle of the building engineering.In view of the process analysis,puts forward the characteristics and measures to the benefit of implementing of BIM technology industrialization in the prefabricated construction.Through this empirical case study,it has been learned about the potential of BIM technology for the whole process of Industrial Building Engineering.The AEC industry is going through the shift in paradigm towards technology,service quality as the key for competitiveness and the core of this new model,application of BIM based approach brings the industrialization,environmentally friendliness,less carbon as the paradigm and direction for new practice model in AEC industry. |
