The main objective of this study is to examine the behavior of a five(5)storey steel frame subjected to defined loading conditions for a modal pushover and a time-history analysis using(Structural Analysis Program 2000)SAP200;a powerful structural analysis software tool.A comparative analysis is performed on the 5 storey steel frame to observe the difference responses of the complete 5 storey frame and the same 5 storey frame with one beam member removed. This study became necessary for two major reasons;the growing demand for innovative structural designs which demand compromising some beam and columns to achieve preferred shapes and space is the first reason. The second reason however is the need to be economical as such as possible to avoid wastages.A comparative analysis of the Pushover results at level 8 of rare earthquakes, the maximum base shear strength of the post beam removal steel frame as compared to the complete(original)steel frame structure base shear maximum value had a difference of about 8%.However,the relative error margin of the beam member was 0.1%in the maximum vertex displacement, which has little effect on the result.Furthermore, compared with the final performance point, the steel frame structure was about 1%larger than that of the complete(original)structure, which is of little effect.Post removal analysis results also indicated that, the first mode of the steel frame structure has no change in the 1st to 3rd and the 5th floors;however the displacement of the 4th floor was increased by 7.1%.The removal of the beam had no effect on the displacement angle of the 1st,2nd and 3rd floors of the steel frame structure, but the displacement angle of the 4th and 5th floors were noticeable. It was also discovered from the results of the time history analysis that, the effect of the removal of a Beam member on the interlayer displacements of the 4th and 5th floor was larger than that of the 1st to 3rd floors. After the post beam removal analysis, the mean value of interlayer displacement angle was recorded to be smaller than that of the 2nd floor of the pre beam removal steel frame structure(original frame),the result of the displacement angle between the other floors were also larger than that of the pre-removal.
