Zen Aesthetics In Modern Space Design

Since Buddhism was introduced into China,it has been combined with Chinese civilization,gradually producing series of new features,and then generated a new kind of religious culture that with strong Chinese characteristics.Zen culture,one of the most typical cases emerged during the period,becomes a significant part of Chinese history as well as the essence of oriental traditional culture.Zen culture,what has affected people’s way of thinking deeply,is rooted in every aspect of cultural life in ancient China.In modern times,Zen culture still plays an important role in city life.The use of Zen Aesthetics in the field of modern space design has created a large number of artistic works with Zen mood and spiritualism.Making good use of Zen Aesthetics is considered to be a frontier problem in relevant studies.This thesis choose the case of City Zen Relaxation House in order to find out how to express Zen spirit and build Zen mood by means of space design methods,trying to create a new way to combine Zen Aesthetics with modern space design methods.In this way not only can urbanites enjoy a visual feast,but also have a better understanding of spirit and morality of Zen culture.The methods mentioned in the thesis will also provide useful references for modern interior design.
