With the improvement of material living standards,people pay more and more attention to the spiritual world.The tea culture--one of Chinese traditional culture is flourishing again in modern times,thus making the tea house space of tea culture’s carrier has developed rapidly.The modern tea house presents the characteristics of many cultures,multiple functions and various forms.Tea house in Suzhou private gardens,as one of the important tea houses types in the world,has its unique advantages which include distinctive characteristics of Suzhou regional culture.The most prominent part,among these characteristics,is the landscape culture.Its defection that the theoretical research is far behind the practice,however,is obvious.This paper mainly uses the theory and methods of landscape architecture,interior design,statistical and other related disciplines.Literature retrieval reading and analysis of the research achievements which include tea culture,tea house and landscape culture at all times and in all countries determine the research direction and key point.Meanwhile,it constructs the theory system and research framework of the tea house space in Suzhou private gardens.Through the research on the development of the tea house and Suzhou private gardens,the paper refines and summarizes the historical evolution of the tea house space in Suzhou private gardens.The paper uses the research methods of field investigation,graphic representation to analyse the location,spatial layout,cultural connotation and other design factors of the tea house.From the behavior-relationship between customers and the space of the tea house,based on experiences of customers from their points of view,to conduct empirical research design and to interview with experts and scholars,including tea house’ top managers,customers,the paper obtains the key factors of the tea house--environmental quality,customer experience,building the theory model of environmental quality and customer experience,putting forward the research hypothesis,carrying out the questionnaire.The paper uses statistical analysis to analyse the questionnaire data,including descriptive statistical analysis,factor analysis,correlation analysis and variance analysis,and the following conclusions were finally drawn:(1)“Light,color,material,furniture,paintings plants and other decorations,doors and windows,style,the overall indoor environment atmosphere constitute the content of environmental quality” is established.(2)“The environmental quality has a positive impact on the customer experience” is established.(3)“Different tea houses of gardens have significant difference on the environmental quality and the customer experience” is not established.(4)“Customer attributes have significant difference on the environmental quality and the customer experience” is partly established.“Different gender customers have significant difference on the environment quality and the customer experience” is not established.“Different age customers have significant difference on the environment quality and the customer experience” is established.“Different educational background customers have significant difference on the environmental quality and the customer experience” is established.“Different professional customers have significant difference on the environment quality and the customer experience” is established.“Different residential properties have significant difference on the environment quality and the customer experience” is partly established.According to the conclusion of history analysis,present situation analysis,and empirical analysis,the paper sums up and forms the design strategies of tea house space in Suzhou private gardens: to create peaceful space environment;to create multifunctional activity space;the interior space should be related to the outdoor garden.
