The Old Summer Palace which was built in the Kang-Qian flourishing age,is a typical representative of China ancient royal garden,it is also the world garden art treasure in history.It was completely destroyed during several catastrophes after the Opium War,the inherent historical and artistic value remains to be excavated and sorted out by the scholars in the future.At the end of twentieth Century,with the rapid development of computer software and hardware technology,virtual reality emerges as the times require which is combining with computer graphics,intelligent sensor,network transmission,artificial intelligence,and become a mainstream technology in twenty-first Century for changing social development.The virtual platform that is constructed by virtual reality is not only can be used for game development,industry and commercial publicity,but also can be used for the game development,industry and commercial publicity,but also can be used for the protection and reparation of cultural relics which has been has been widely recognized in the worldwide.This paper mainly takes Universal peace as the research object which is one of the forty views of Old Summer Palace.In the case of the historical data collection,by comparing the performance of mainstream 3D design software and virtual engine,3Dmax is selected as a virtual modeling method,which is combined with the VRP virtual engine for restoring Universal Peace,feasibility of virtual reality that is combined with 3Dmax and VRP using in reparation and protection of Chinese ancient buildings can be confirmed.At the same time,during in the 3D modeling and process optimizing of Chinese ancient buildings,problems existing in virtual restoration progress can be solved,the corresponding system scheme can be summarized,and values of art and technology can be achieved.In the last chapter,the paper views the future of application of art and technology can be achieved.In the last chapter,the paper views the future of application of virtual reality in Chinese ancient building restoration.
