The Qing Mansions were the special productions of the Qing regime, connecting the imperial clan with the royal household and linking the royal court to the civil society. There were a plenty of hierarchical mansions built in the Qing dynasty owing to the imperial clan system, which meant the prince was awarded a knighthood and gave the mansion but not allowed to have the ownership. The Qing Mansions have always played an important role in the Chinese ancient buildings due to having four characteristics, including the strict and rational layout,multi-level space, the exquisite design and the enormous scale. They are precious not only for having the architectural value but also having abundant values of history, culture and art.The dissertation selects the related constructions of the Prince Yi’s Family as the main research objects and aims to explore the special architectural features produced by both the tangible and intangible factors.Based on the historical background of Qing Dynasty and the Prince Yi’s Family, the dissertation achieves the aim through considering the Qing’s regulations and having a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the history of the Prince Yi’s Family and the relevant architectural formation and changes simultaneously from the scope of the original appearance and the current status. The research methods used in the dissertation includes literature review,site-observation,data collection and sorting as well as statistics analysis and deduction.By means of the step-by-step analysis,it can be concluded that the formation of the constructions related to the Prince Yi’s Family results mainly from the interaction between the subjective and objective elements. The tangible factors include the Qing’s regulations and site limitation, and the subjective factors involve the historical background, the Prince Yi’s family’s history, the key time and the pivotal owners. Finally, based on the above findings, the dissertation points out the research limitations and gives some suggestions for the future conservation approaches. The thesis consists of the five chapters.Chapter 1 is the introduction. It mainly introduces the research background, and then indicates the research objects, meanings and aims, and presents the research methodology and framework.Chapter 2 gives an overview of the history of Prince Yi’s Family and describes the basic information of the relevant constructions. And then it explores the critical and valuable time of architectural change and elaborates the characteristics of the key people.Chapter 3 provides the regulation of Qing dynasty, gives the related figures of “Complete Map of Peking,Qianlong Period”,and describes the current appearance of the mansions and the graveyard, and summarises the differences between them through comparing.Chapter 4 discusses and analyses the architectural features of the constructions of Prince Yi’s Family affected by the objective and subjective factors on the basis of the first three chapters.According to the aforementioned analysis,Chapter 5 gives some recommendations on the repair work.
